What MiCA covers
Authorisation of crypto exchanges, custodians, brokers and stablecoin issuers across the EU, with rules on capital, governance, conflicts of interest and consumer protection.
Why it matters
A MiCA-licensed venue must safeguard client assets, publish whitepapers for listed assets and meet ongoing reporting duties — reducing (not eliminating) counterparty risk.
What it does not do
MiCA does not protect you from market volatility, smart-contract bugs on DeFi, or losing your password. It also doesn't mean an exchange is "risk-free".
